New Specs...

One of my friends from school asked me yesterday if I had been wearing my glasses more often these days, and this was a correct observation on his part…

You see, I’m down to my last pair of disposable contacts, so I’ve been more cautious recently about when to wear them…In fact, I’m a groomsmen in a wedding this weekend and I want to be sure that I have a pair of contacts to wear when it comes time to take photos of the wedding party…

Maybe I’m being a little paranoid here, but there’s more to the story…

One of the few tasks that I felt I had to take care of over my holiday break was to go to the eye doctor, as I could tell that the prescription for my glasses was no longer good, and was only getting worse and worse; it got so bad, that I rarely wore my glasses anymore and I even tried to avoid driving with them…

Thus, I felt it was imperative that I head to the eye-doctor soon after my first semester finals were over…Yet, I somehow managed to wait over a month before setting up an appointment and I didn’t get over there until the first day of this semester…Yes, I had over a month off from school to take care of this, and I didn’t see the eye doctor until the morning of the first day of classes…

When I visited with my eye doctor that morning, he told me that it was best to get checked out once every 18 months, and I acknowledged that I’d been slacking a bit, as I thought it’s been two years since my last appointment…

Ummm, yeah, I was a bit off, however…

Apparently, my last appointment was five years ago…That being said, it was definitely nice to finally get a new prescription back in January, and it has been even nicer to finally get a new pair of glasses…It only took me a month and a half to get them, as I picked them up at the end of February…

Hopefully I can now get some new contacts, as like I said, I’m down to my last pair…Oh, and these contacts that I’ve been wearing, the ‘best used by’ date on the box is 2003…

I’ve been carrying around a copy of my new contacts prescription for about a week now, so hopefully I can place an order soon…My sister told me that she’s found 1800CONTACTS to be pretty easy to use, so hopefully I can place an order soon…

Considering I had over a month to set up an appointment and never did—and that five years went by since my last visit to the eye doctor—should it be any surprise that it has taken me over two months to get new contacts?

Actually, I must admit that I am a bit surprised that I’ve been this lazy with something this important…

Now all I need to do is get the number for 1800CONTACTS off of their website, and then hopefully find enough spare time to place an order…

Oh well, we'll 'see' how that goes...

Random Thought on Bachelor Parties...

When it comes to weddings, there needs to be a rule that requires a break of at least one weekend between the bachelor party and the wedding itself…

I’m still pretty exhausted after attending a bachelor party in Austin last weekend, and—to be honest—I think I was somehow more tired on Monday than I was when I drove back to Houston on Sunday…

Either way, I could definitely benefit from a laid-back weekend here in town, yet instead I’ll be driving to Corpus Christi after lunch on Friday and attending a Fiesta-themed rehearsal dinner that night…

I’m sure I’ll start feeling better by tomorrow or Thursday, just in time to dig myself into another hole this weekend that will take me until the middle of next week to crawl out of…

Oh well, at least its for a good cause, as I’m happy to be there for a good friend, although I’m really not looking forward to that drive back to Houston on Sunday…

Plus, I know of a few activities in Houston this upcoming weekend that would likely slow me down just as much, so I guess I’d be exhausted again this Sunday, regardless of where I was…

So maybe I should just shut up and stop complaining…

Spring Break 2006

My last spring break ever is now over and I unfortunately didn’t make it to any exotic locales like I did during my final spring break in college, when we rented a beach house on South Padre Island, Texas…

Still, it wasn’t as boring as some of my other spring breaks, which was even more of a surprise to me considering I spent a substantial part of the weekdays at work….At least, Monday thru Thursday, that is...

Anyway, over the ten or so days that span the ‘bookend’ weekends, I was able to enjoy quite a few activities…There was the going-away (keg) party that we hosted, which was followed up the next night by a wedding & reception…which were followed up later that same night by a friend’s 30th birthday party…

In addition, I was able to catch Matisyahu in concert one evening, and then check out Dave Chappelle's Block Party (his new concert movie) the next night…Finally, I was able to attend the bachelor party for one of my best friends this past weekend in Austin, while also catching some of the opening games of the NCAA Tournament...

Thus, despite spending more time at work than I'd originally planned, I was still able to have a pretty good time on my last spring break…

However, there were plenty of things I had hoped to do over the break that I didn’t take care of…For example, I took all of my textbooks home, in hopes of catching up in a couple classes—or at least getting more organized—yet I never even cracked open one of them...

I also meant to do more job searching, yet I just barely worked on some cover letters…Furthermore, I meant to finally refill my Adderal prescription and order some new contacts, yet I was too lazy to do either…

I also hoped to catch up on my ‘blogging,’ maybe even trying to write some of the posts that I’ve been considering for a while now, such as my ode to Kirby Puckett, for example, as well as a recap of my trip to Missouri and my rant on the people who vote for the Butkus Award and how A.J. Hawk got robbed…Yet, I never got around to doing much blogging outside of posting some photos...

Oh well, now that our classes have resumed, I guess I now have time to blog again…Or, at least, I now have time to think about blogging before getting too lazy and playing hold ‘em against the computer instead…

I hope all is well everyone…

'J.D. Fish' Turns 30...

Lost in all the madness in the real world these last few weeks—in addition to my exhaustion and severe laziness—was the realization that my old friend Jeffrey Dean Fish turned 30 a few weeks ago…

Yes, the fake ID I used for most of my sophomore and junior years of college turned 30 on February 17th, sharing the exact same birthday as one of my former roommates (James Curtis Kneale, II)…

One of my buddies from high school made the ID for me, and I never found out why he chose that date as my birthday…Either way, we always thought it was pretty random that I ended up ‘sharing’ the same birthday as one of my friends…

Even more random, though, was the fact that my buddy chose to use ‘Fish’ as my last name…If you thought that such a last name might stand out in the text of the ID, it certainly did stood out in cursive on the signature part…

Still, the ID was almost perfect for me…On average, I probably used it 5 times a week over roughly 14 months of my college career and it only got turned down once…and it was at a Kroger, no less! I probably went to that Kroger 50 times over those 14 months—basically, at least once a week—and one day it didn’t look as good as usual…

I think I went back to that Kroger a couple days later, though, and whichever cashier I got that day had no problem with it…To be honest, though, I think many of the cashiers stopped carding me there after a while…You know, after getting to know a few of them…

Yes, after a few visits to each of their respective registers, some of these cashiers knew that ‘Mr. Fish’ was of legal drinking age…

Anyway, as I’ve dwelled on this fact these last few weeks—that my old fake ID just turned 30—I began to think that I may have come across the ID a few months ago, when I was randomly rummaging through some of the boxes of crap that I’ve collected over the years…Thus, I spent a few minutes recently trying to find it, yet I had no luck…If I do ever find see it again, though, then I will happily scan it and post a photo of it on this blog…

Finally, I guess this puts everyone on notice that I’ll be turning 30 soon…Well, in a little less than 14 months, that is…

I've gotta turn 29 first, though, which will happen on a (Good) Friday this year...(hint, hint)...Should be a Good time...

Rewinding the Oscars...

As I drove home to catch the Oscars tonight, I thought it might be a good idea to blog throughout the show...Basically, posting some 'stream-of-consciousness-notes'...Yet, I started to get considerably bored soon after George Clooney won Best Supporting Actor at the start of the show, as I didn't have much interest in the awards for makeup, costumes, editing, and so on...

Anyway, I think my favorite part of the whole affair tonight had to be the 'acceptance speech'--if you can call it that--by Three 6 Mafia after they won for Best Original Song...

That being said, on numerous occasions tonight, I was reminded about how nice it is to be able to rewind live television...For example, I think the best presenting duo had to be the Will Ferrell and Steve Carell combo, yet I was taking up a dump when they originally came out to present an award for make-up or something like that...I could barely hear what they were saying when it was live, but due to being able to rewind the show, I was able to enjoy their time on stage...

In addition, I was playing a game of RBI on another TV when I suddenly noticed Ludacris on stage, and thus, after hitting the rewind button, I was able to check out his intro, as well as Three 6 Mafia's performance in its entirety...

And, I must admit, I hit rewind a few times after Three 6 Mafia's acceptance speech, as I really wanted to figure out what was going on up there...I think it's safe to say that I enjoyed their speech more than their performance...

Oh well, I have some more random thoughts from the show, as well as the last few weeks, so hopefully I can post some of them soon...If I'm not too lazy, that is...
