Speech(less)...
In fact, it was the second straight rehearsal dinner that the groom ended up walking to the front and ‘saving’ me…or, at least, taking the mike away from me…Yet, this time, I wasn’t done and had to take the mike back, so that I could deliver the quote I found online for my close…
Oh well, I was pretty happy with the speech, although I totally blanked when I got up there…Actually, I came up with a few good ideas during the week in regard to what I was going to say, but only one thing was set in stone: my opening crack on the groom…you know, to test the crowd and see what we were working with…
Yet, again, I totally blanked and somehow failed to start with the one joke that I thought was the perfect icebreaker…It was on my mind for much of the week--and I was ready to go with it that evening--yet it somehow completely slipped my mind…
Looking back, though, maybe it was a good thing that I forgot my 'golden opener,' as I later tried it out on a few other guys in the wedding party and it received mixed reviews…
Don’t get me wrong, most of the guys liked it…It’s just that some were concerned that it wasn’t necessarily the kind of thing you say at a rehearsal dinner, as a few people may have found it a bit crass…
Oh well, I guess things worked out just right in the end…
