Gangsta Lean...

Last Saturday night, I met up with some guys from school to watch the TX-OU basketball game, and—upon my arrival—one of my friends immediately asked, “Dude, what’s up with your gangsta lean?”

I knew what he was referring to, but in case you’re confused, here’s how the Urban Dictionary defines "gangsta lean":

“A kind of walk swaying from side to side, leaning preferentially to one side, sometimes caused by or indicative of carrying a gat inside one's jacket or pants.”

And here’s the term used in a sentence: “Lysol's gangsta lean let the other homies know that he was packin'.”

Anyway, yes, I was walking a little funny, but I wasn’t packing a gat…No, the reason for my apparent gangsta lean was that I was already incredibly sore after playing football with some friends from school just a few hours earlier that day…

And before anyone asks, YES, I did stretch before heading out there, but apparently it wasn’t enough, as I’ve now found muscles that I never knew were there before…Actually, I think I pulled muscles that I never knew were there before…Sure, I think the fact that we were playing in the rain certainly didn’t help, but I never thought I would be in that much pain just a few minutes later...

Yes, I’ll readily admit that it had been quite a while since I’d done anything athletic or exercise-related—probably since playing basketball or softball last fall—but still, I was a bit surprised that I was immediately sore, within five minutes of leaving the field…

In fact, I stopped to get more Powerade on my way home, and it took me over a minute to get out of my car, as I actually had to pull on my shorts to lift one of my legs up…

Damn homey, it didn’t used to be this way…At least when I was younger the pain wouldn't start until the next day...Yes, I’m getting older now, but am I really this out of shape?

I’ve been so sore this week that I’ve taken the elevator whenever possible, even if I’m just going up one floor…Yet, considering hardly anybody ever takes the stairs at my school—and thus, the only time you can get on one of the elevators is from the first floor—there have been numerous occasions that I’ve had to take the stairs this week, and I’ve definitely been able to ‘feel the burn’…

Well, I don’t think I have much of an ego, so I can’t really consider this experience to be a shock to my ego…Yet, it has made me realize that I definitely need to exercise more, or at least make an attempt to get in better shape…

I haven’t been off to the greatest start this week, but that should change soon…
