Pineapple Karma with a Twist (Part II)...
OK, so I’m back to explain something I mentioned last week, as I pointed out in Part I of this post that I think my buddy Pineapple provided me with a little karma for the second half of the Motor City Bowl...
You see, after winning my college football pick ‘em among some friends from law school last year, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to set up an account with one of the online gambling sites...However, when all was said and done on the regular season, this really wasn't the best idea...
That being said, it's not like I lost a lot on the year...I ended up down $6 and some change, so basically you could say that I finished year about even, outside of the juice you have to pay on your winning bets...
And it's not like I had a lot of cash floating out there on the line every weekend, as my normal bet was $10...In fact, only once did I personally bet more than that on a game, and this was when I bet $20 on my 'lock of the year' when Baylor was favored by only 4 points at SMU during the first week of the season...
Anyway, considering I still had some money in my account at the end of the regular season, I thought I would place a few bets on some of the bowl games, yet I didn't get off to the greatest start...Let's just say that I lost twice as much as I won, and it could have been worse if I wasn't a minute late in trying to bet on the University of Houston (+5) against Kansas on December 23rd...
Maybe the worst part about my performance, though, is the fact that I ignored a trend that I even pointed out in one of my previous posts on the 23rd, when I stated:
"...one of my observations so far in regard to the bowls is that it seems many of the teams have forgotten how to play defense after a few weeks off...That being said, why the f*ck did I take the under in this game [Houston vs. Kansas]?!?"
So, after finally deciding to take the Over (53) in the Motor City Bowl, we were treated to a scoreless first quarter, while Memphis was leading Akron 13 to 3 at the half for a whopping total of 16 points...
At that point, I practically gave up on that bet and decided to head over to Blockbuster where I eventually crossed paths with Pineapple again...
I then checked out the score when I got home and realized I only needed five or six points (I couldn't remember the total at the time) with 5 minutes remaining and Memphis's was driving with their second team running back after DeAngelo Williams left the game with over 200 yards rushing...Anyway, Memphis went on to score a touchdown, which was later answered by an Akron touchdown...
Thus, after a combined 16-point first half, the two teams combined for 53 points in the second half, easily surpassing the 53 Over/Under...
So, with a little help from Pineapple, the 'Over Trend' continued...
However, this good karma ran out soon after and I continued to lose more than I won, and thus, I decided not to bet on any of the BCS games...
Well, until tonight, that is...
